The Children’s Hospital and the Junior League have a long-standing relationship. JLC volunteers worked in the playroom, snack bar, outpatient clinic, X-ray, occupational therapy, library, play school, and did some secretarial work. The administration of the Out-Patient Clinic was handled totally by Junior League volunteers, who ensured smooth running of the clinic.

In January, 1952, the new Red Cross Hospital opened and League volunteers increased their time to average 200 hours of work a month. Although the League discontinued formal involvement in 1956, League volunteers continued to give placement commitment and financial assistance until 1978. In 1971, the League donated $1000 to furnish the Out-Patient’s Waiting Room at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. In 1976, the JLC opened and ran a toy lending library in the hospital.
